A Family Legacy Rooted in Craftsmanship

It all started in 1958, when Dean and Mildred Lougheed moved to Duntroon and set up shop in the town’s former blacksmith building. By 1962, Dean had launched a small carpet and furniture cleaning business, working hard to earn the trust of the local community. As demand grew, so did the business—expanding into flooring sales and adding new space to meet customer needs. Dean’s Rugland was born.

After a fire destroyed the original building in 1973, Dean rebuilt and expanded once again, determined to build something lasting. In 1979, his son Michael joined the family business, helping to grow the store and expand the offerings. In 1996, the company joined Carpet One Floor & Home, giving customers the benefit of big-store buying power without losing that small-town, family-owned feel. Today, Michael’s children, Sarah and Justin, continue the tradition, bringing new energy and innovation to the third generation of Dean’s Carpet One.
